The state of Andhra Pradesh got a blessing in disguise through the country"s major auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra. The company is all set to install its tractor facility in the area of Zaheerabad in Medak district. With the back up from the state government, the Chief Minister is to lay the foundation stone for the facility tomorrow in the presence of the company"s President for Automotive and Farm Equipment. The facility will get an investment of Rs300 crore for the three year period from now by providing direct employment to nearly 2000 persons and indirect employment to more than 5000 persons, it is learnt. The new facility, to be the first from M&M in South India, is expected to yield the volume of 90000 annual units of tractors in addition to three and four wheeler commercial vehicles. Mahindra & Mahindra is boast to have the largest number of tractors worldwide, with seven plants in the home country, two each in the US and China and one in Australia.

Currently the company owns a plant in Zaheerabad at an extension of 343.36 acres of land which takes care of the vehicles of UV (Maxx), three wheelers (Champion Afla), LCVs and buses manufacturing. The plant has the man power of 641 employees to deliver the daily volume of 218 units. The tractor facility will be covered in this land and the company expects the government to offer incentives of special package to recognize the employment opportunities created. The area of operation comes under the purview of the backward Telegana district. The government is likely to reciprocate by scratching 100% value added tax for 10 year period from the day one of production. This waiver would account for Rs120 crores for the first five years of operation, said an official of the government department.

In addition the state government is to negotiate with the central government to allot natural gas for the company"s use on priority stake. The government made it clear that M&M will avail all the privileges extended by it along with minor incentives to subsidiary projects in the adjoining Vendor Park. These ancillary projects will come up from 250 acres of land possessed by the government"s Industrial Infrastructure Corp and the project will be a JV with Mahindra. Further M&M may get the privilege of getting lands for erecting the National Service Support Centre in Hyderabad.
