Mahindra On Expansion After Genio’s Success
Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) said its expansion spree in commercial vehicles will be brighter with the recent launch of Genio. This, the company feels confident, will make overall increase in all commercial segments including light, medium and heavy. The markets targeted for this activity are Chandigarh and UP wherein its solid presence will boost the robust growth in North India market. Mahindra & Mahindra is facing a stiff competition from the other giant Tata Motors in all these regions, where the company intends to consolidate its position. Genio will be bracketed major vehicles in this segment to be in the four top most vehicle markets in the Indian market of this sector. Genio is 1.2 tonne pick up category and is set for the utility in SME transportation and will meet the challenges in this segment.
As per the statement from the Mahindra"s VP for marketing Auto Division, the company invested Rs225 crore for this product manufacturing and assembling line. The present capacity of 2000 monthly units can be expanded to meet the demand and will be designed and delivered from its Chakan plant. Gio can carry 1250kg and is fitted with 75hp engine and is available in BSIII markets at Rs5.11 lakhs and M&M offers BSIV too. The volume of pick-up vehicles in India is 6500 monthly units of which UP accounts for 700 units and M&M"s share is 70%. M&M offers pick-ups under 2.0 tonne category like Gio, Maxximo, while in maxi-truck it has Bolero.
