Mahindra Launches Dual Cabin Genio

Mahindra and Mahindra has unveiled a two cabin pick up called the Genio. This new model from Mahindra is aimed at customers from infrastructure and construction sector. The dual cabin Genio can carry four passengers along with equipment. Mahindra had previously launched a single cabin Genio commercial vehicle.

Mahindra said dual cabin pick ups were very popular in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. It believes the current growth in the infrastructure sector in India meant there was a market for the dual cabin Genio.

Mahindra already has a dual cabin pick-up in the form of the Bolero pick-up. However, the carmaker is certain there will be cannibalization within its products.

The base variant of the dual cabin Genio will cost Rs. 5.46 lakhs while the higher end version with more fittings will cost Rs.5.95 lakhs. Mahindra wants to maintain its market share of 75 per cent in the pick-up segment by launching new models such as the dual cabin Genio.

Mahindra will be building the dual cabin Genio at its production plant in Chakan, Maharastra. It said it had made an investment of Rs.225 crore to accommodate the development and production of the new Genio.

Mahindra is expected to face competition n the pick-up segment as reports say General motors and Volkswagen have evinced interest in entering the sector.
