Tata Motors begins Jaguar Land Rover Production In India

Tata Motors believes Jaguar Land Rover production in India will help it boost local sales. JLR executives have said they wanted to make India their second largest market. Jaguar and Land Rover models were being imported from the UK so far. Local production will help the company reduce the prices down and face up to competition from other luxury carmakers such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
Tata Motors' profits, which grew at an exponential rate in the previous financial year, was mainly due to the increased sales of JLR models. JLR Chief executive Ralf Speth while reporting a 25 per cent increase in sales said: “We are very optimistic about Jaguar Land Rover in terms of volume growth." JLR's sales increased to 243,621 units as against the previous year's sales of 193,982 units.
Tata bought Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in 2009 despite of the UK carmaker suffering losses and reduced sales. Sales have improved in recently after the introduction of new models.
