Honda Recalls Its City Models Numbering 58,000
This is the biggest in the Indian car market in the last one year and takes the toll to 4 million globally since February 2010. The other Japanese giant Nissan had to recall its 3.5 million units in the said period. The defect is found in the engine and the result could be total standstill of the function and the owners of all these units have been duly informed to replace the component at free of cost. The owners coming under this recall are those who purchased City between November 2008 and December 2009.
Quite interestingly, Honda has the facility to yield one lakh annual units but could sell 55000-60000 units and the sale volume during April2010-January 2011 was 51045 units. Honda has made a clear distinction between these sedans and the ones under production since the essential modifications and rectifications are being carried out to overcome such faults. The industry analysts do not see any threat for the company attributing such recalls as a routine process in the industry.
This recall is beyond any mandatory norm in India unlike in the US but is made on the company"s own interest for retaining their reputation in the market. Honda"s range in the Indian market includes Jazz, Civic, Accord and City assembled here in addition to the import of CR-V suv.
