Honda City To Get A Facelift, New Features

Sources say the new Honda City will be launched during the festive season in October. The new car is expected to be visually different both in the interiors as well as the exterior. The exterior design is expected to be more sporty. The bumpers and the rear tail lights will get a makeover while the engine is expected to be the same. The facelift also includes additional features such as wifi, blue tooth and sun roof.
Honda Motors has said it had no plans for a facelift of the Honda City. In a statement is said: "We do not have any plan to launch the facelift for the City model during the festival period. Our current focus is the launch of the Brio (hatchback)." However sources have maintained that a facelift of the City will be dome before the festive season. Honda is desperate to improve sales and it is worried that the City's market share would dwindle further if its competitors make foot hold in the sector.
The Honda City's competition increased further after Ford launched the international Fiesta sedan in India with both petrol and diesel engines. Skoda and Nissan are also planning to build their own mid level sedans. If reports about the facelift to the Honda city are true, it can be considered as a desperate measure by Honda to protect its bread and butter car in India.
Honda is expecting its sales to be increase after it launched the Brio hatchback in India. The Brio's launch was postponed following the disruption of production caused by the tsunami in Japan. The Honda Brio is expected to be priced between Rs.4 lakhs and five lakhs making it Honda's cheapest model in India. The Brio has already been launched in Thailand and it has garnered rave reviews.
Honda City's sales increased by only 3.5% last financial year even as overall passenger car sales grew 30%. City's sales fell 43% (at 3,370 units) in the April-May period this financial year compared to 5,269 units of Vento sold by Volkswagen. The Hyundai Verna's sales have increased from 3,520 units to 6,211 units in the same period marking a growth of 76% while sales of the Maruti SX4 rose by 63% to 4,804 units.
