GM Electric Car
The recent budget from the Indian government sounded too good for hybrid and electric version vehicle makers with sops offered. The move was to increase the volume of electric vehicles to protect the environment. Yet some electric car makers lament over the lack of infrastructures for producing these versions. Amidst these hiccups General Motors is initiating its efforts to display its mini electric version car next month.

It was reported that the company"s MD and President said that the GM electric car was not a production unit but for showcase only. He added that the GM electric car would be formally launched depending upon the feedback solicited and the attempt would be a knowledge finding exercise for the company. He further said the GM mini electric version will be the outcome of joint efforts from the engineers of the US facility and Bangalore facility.

There was an earlier report that Chevrolet Spark was in the corner for this electric version as GM has introduced the LPG version for its Chevrolet Beat amidst rumors about the electric version of this Beat. GM is in the Indian car market with its Chevrolet brands and is currently the fifth largest auto maker in India. The brands are classified as Spark, Aveo-UVA, Aveo, Tavera, Optra , Cruze, Beat and Captiva. The company has already entered into the electric version globally with its Chevrolet Volt/ Cruze electric. The company is aiming to have a feasibility study in India before launching these versions by showcasing them.
