General Motors To Launch 6 New Cars In India

General Motors (GM) is on the verge of launching six new cars in the Indian car market in a time span of 2 years as it is shelling out 0 million for the enhanced production in its Halol facility. Of the new cars, three will be LCVs under the Chinese platform of SAIC in addition to introducing 14 new variants for the existing models, said the General Motors MD and President for India.

The expansion activities will be at rapid pace with an investment of 0 million during the coming 12 months, he added. This will increase the capacity from the current 85000 to 1,05,000 units at the General Motors Halol facility which looks after Optra, Cruze, Aveo and Tavera MUV.

The Chinese company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corpn"s entry with General Motors made it a JV on 50:50 during the last year, under which there will be five new cars from SAIC platform, he said further. Of these five, three will be LCVs and two will be passenger vehicles. The first LCV may roll out this year to be followed by others later. The vehicles coming under SAIC platform in India will have90% localization with the engines to be delivered from General Motors Talegaon plant.
