General Motors Cancels Cadillac's India Entry

Cadillac is one of the first brands acquired by General Motors. Cadillac emerged as the premium brand of the American carmaker while Chevrolet focussed on volume selling cars. Some of the important Cadillac cars are the CTS, Seville, STS, Eldorado, DTS and the Sixteen. Cadillac is also the manufacturer of the Presidential Limo. The Cadillac Presidential Limo is one of the most advanced cars manufactured in the US.
Mr Slym while speaking to the media during the launch of the new Chevrolet Beat diesel said: “Since our arrival in India about 16 years ago our prime focus was to make Chevrolet the most popular branded cars in India." The decision was made after a nation wide survey to study the demand for Cadillac branded cars.
Speaking about GM India's focus on the Chevrolet brand, Mr Slym said: “Our sole aim is to make Chevrolet as the numero uno branded car of India as we are still holding the number five position in terms of sales figure."
GM has sold 1.1 lakh cars in India last year marking an impressive 60 per cent growth. It is aiming to boost its sales further and the diesel Beat is expected to be a main driver of growth. The company is expecting to grow at a comparatively slow 20 per cent this year.
