The presence of General Motors in the Indian market for the past 15 years has seen many news and the latest aim is to deal its Cadillac premium. The company"s GM for India said the potential for this Cadillac found to be more than the siblings Pontiac, Buick and hence this car will enter into the premium segment at the right time.

In addition to this GM is scheduling to launch six new models for India and some more variants for the existing models of which two will be under LCV segment, two sedans, a hatchback and an SUV. For this the company would shell out 0 million in another two years, he added. If this materialized, then the company"s entry with its initial Opel and the further replacement by Chevrolet brands will get new spectrum. Currently GM ranks fifth largest in the Indian auto industry with its Chevrolet brands. Having reached the one lakh unit in 2010, the target for 2012, he said, will be 2 lakh mark and three lakh in the subsequent year. He said this could be possible in the wake of the industry"s growth rate of 12-15% in 2011 from which GM aims to double its growth rate.

He negated the prospects of promoting more hybrids out of the concessions offered in the annual budget. He said the sops could not match the growth of hybrid versions in India but said the forming of national commission on hybrid cars would end up with long run benefit. Rather GM is to focus its electric version in select places of the country from this April on display mode and not on sale mode, he specified. He recently launched the LPG version of Chevrolet Beat in New Delhi and said the engine fitted in Beat, Smartech was a brainchild of the company engineers in Bangalore unit.
