Freelander SUV Slated For Domestic Assembling

In a bid to capitalize on the import duty exemption, Tata Motors is planning to assemble the SUV Freelander in the Indian facility. The Chikhli plant will be upgraded to assemble nearly 2000 units pf Freelander SUV per year and incidentally this facility was employed earlier by Mercedes-Benz.

Tata Motors will start assembling Freelander SUV this year, imported as CKD from Jaguar and Land Rover of the UK. This comes in the wake of tremendous response for JLR in a year time in the Indian market. The facility will drive away the current versions of Freelander SUV said its CEO and MD after assessing the situation from the recent budget proposals. So far Tata has sold 200 units of Land Rover models in India and the next step will be to capitalize the market share and ultimately the increased margin.

In the process, Freelander SUV 2 will come off first and the Director for JLR"s global dealing said, after China, India will be the next potential market for Land Rover products. The move will envisage the boost to the apex body in the UK , he stressed.
