Ford To Set Up Manufacturing Plant in Gujarat

The Gujarat government officials are working on earmarking the land for the American carmaker. An official said: "Ford has been in discussion with the Gujarat government for setting up a manufacturing plant at an investment of nearly Rs.5,000 crore. It has now closed in on 400 acres of land in Sanand for the facility.,"
Ford India has been planning to set up a second plant in India as it prepares to launch eight new models here. Ford intends to tap the growing Indian car market by launching new models. This would mean several of its global products will be made available in India.
Ford India currently runs a plant at Chennai. It has invested $500 million at this plant to increase production capacity to two million units per year. The plant also has a installed annual production capacity of 2.5 million engines.
The Gujarat government has been wooing carmakers in its plans to make the state India's leading auto hub. Tata Motors set up its Tata Nano plant in Sanand. General Motors runs its plant in Halol.
