Ford India Sales Decline; Drop 13%

Ford May Sales
Ford India domestic sales fell by 12.79 per cent in May after selling 7,046 units. Ford's sales in May 2010 stood at 8,080 units. Ford India's total sales including exports between January and May stood at 51,420 units registering a growth of 71 per cent. Ford began exporting the Figo small car to Bahrain and Kenya.

Ford India has announced that it would invest $72 million in India to to expand its powertrain facility in Chennai and to support its sales and export growth plans. This investment will bring Ford's total investment in India to more than USD 1 billion.

Ford India's President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said: “From growing our product portfolio and expanding our presence, Ford's commitment to India has only deepened with time." Expressing confidence that the Indian car market would continue to grow Mr Boneham said Ford's sales in May would not deter its targets. He added Ford's recently launched models would propel it up sales charts. The Figo small car has been very successful in India and its sales are expected to increase further this year.
