Ford Fiesta To Be Made In Gujarat

Ford India has its plant in Chennai and is running it at close to full capacity. With the recent launch of the new Fiesta and the success of the Figo small car, the American carmaker is under increased pressure to produce more cars.
Ford India officials have held talks with the Gujarat government and have confirmed they would invest Rs.5,000 crore in the state. The company has requested a plot of 400 acres at Sanand and the government has already begun the process of acquiring land.
Ford India in its statement has said: “As part of our plan to introduce eight new products by the middle of the decade, Ford is expanding its capacities at its existing facility in Tamil Nadu as well as exploring other options."
Ford India has an ambitious plan to launch eight new models in India. The company is looking at India as an export hub. With Sanand being close to the sea ports, it is an ideal location for the carmaker. Ford India is already exporting the Figo to Bahrain and Kenya.
Ford India is not the only carmaker which is looking at Gujarat as a manufacturing hub. India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has also expressed interest in setting up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
