Ferrari’s Gesture To Indian Market
These two dealers will be among more than 200 Ferrari dealers spread over 57 countries. The major drawback for the owners of the company in India is its whooping price due to the levy of 100% taxes on imported and CBUs. This accounts for double the cost of domestic production cost. The California is priced at Rs22.27 million which is the cheapest in Ferrari"s range in India while 458 Italia is Rs25.66 million and 599 GTB costs Rs33.71 million.
The dealers in the Indian market will be taken care by Shreyans group which looks after the cars for Porsche Automobile Holding SE and for Ducati Motor Holding motorcycles in the country. The group will coordinate the marketing and post-sale service for Ferrari vehicles in India. The Indian dealers will be operative from spring of which the one in Mumbai will start its deal from the second half of this year.
The Chairman of Shreyans said the number of dealers will increase in another three years. With this the Indian luxury car segment will get vehicles from VW AG"s Bugatti and Lamborghini in addition to Nissan. These companies have already established their presence in the sports vehicle for promoting their strength. Also in the moves are their expansion in potential markets as alternative to the downfall in Europe and the US. The entry of Ferrari is timing that the Indian economy has brought to the fore of the growing big shots.
This made companies like BMW AG, Audi AG, Jaguar and Daimler to come out with their parade of luxury cars in the Indian market. The chief of sales for Audi said it expected to reach 15000 units in another four years against 3000 units done last year. The sale volume for the Italian car maker in China last year was 300 making 50% growth.
Fiat is already in India making its Punto hatchback and Linea sedan as it is well known for its Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Fiat range of cars. For the Indian operations the company has the JV with Tata Motors through which Fiat sells and serves its vehicles. According to the company sources, there won"t be assembling process in India as of now and the entire process is done from its Italian town Maranello. The chief said the companies can tap more business provided there were good dealers and excellent service. He further said that the Italian car maker has enormous opening in the Indian market and sustainable business. The dealer Shreyans is also in the dealing of luxury items like jewelry and yachts in India.
