The scope of electric cars is getting brighter with the European Union targeting 50% products by 2030. Of late there has been a huge rise in the demand for electric and hybrid vehicles in the global markets.

The European Union has made an initiative to suggest to its member nations to considerably reduce the conventional cars by 50%. and foregoing the dependency of oil from the Middle East. The move comes in the wake of political instability in these countries. The so called paper issues necessity to scrap the 150 year old mode of transport and automotive activities. The use of combustion engine needs to be wiped out at least by 2050, it said.

The call enables the European Countries to initiate lowering of emissions which seems to protect the environment and climate change. Other reliefs are like noise free drive and the anticipated reduction of oil bill from the current 210 billion. The paper emanated the message that the gradual phasing out of 'conventionally fueled' vehicles from the urban environment is a major contribution to significant reduction of oil dependence, greenhouse-gas emissions and local air and noise pollution.

The motto of EC is to promote fueling and charging infrastructure to new makes, envisaging public transport and suggest alternative modes like cycling and walking. The paper, devised as a policy, is deemed to be the road map for the years to come. The idea is to avail rail or water means of transport for the distance of 300 km travel at least for the 30% of surface transport means.
