Diesel Beat Props Up General Motors India

Chevrolet Beat
General Motors India, the local division of the American car major has reported its sales results for July. GM India's July sales have increased 33.46 per cent to 9,508 units from the corresponding period last year.

General Motors India Vice-President P Balendran has credited this sales surge to the recently launched diesel Beat small car. The company's bulk of the sales came from the Beat. GM India sold 5,255 units of the Chevrolet Beat, 1,502 units of the Chevrolet Spark hatchbacks, 62 units of the UVA and 125 units of the Aveo sedan. GM India reported 621 sales of the Cruze luxury sedan.

Mr Balendran also said the carmaker managed to sell 1,707 units of the Tavera and 113 units of the Captiva SUV.

Speaking about the performance of GM India in July, Mr Balendran said: “The growth was primarily driven by the overwhelming response to the newly launched Chevrolet Beat Diesel... Although we have registered 34% growth, the market continues to be sluggish due to the repeated hike in interest rates and fuel prices."
