Chevrolet Unveils Electric Beat

Karl Slym, president and managing director of Chevrolet in India said: “It is a learning vehicle for us. We have no plans to introduce it. I want engineers (at GM India) to understand this technology not only from an Indian point of view; we have to work to bring the costs down from a global perspective."
The electric Beat was first conceptualised when GM India was in talks with Indian electric carmaker Reva to develop an electric Spark. Although the deal between GM India and Reva did not materialise, GM continued its development of a fully electric car. The carmaker used the design of the Beat rather than developing an electric car from scratch.
The electric Beat or the Beat BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) as GM India wants to call it, has 300 lithium ion batteries powering a 45kW electric motor. The Beat BEV can run for about 130 kilometres with a full charge.
