Car Price Hike In Delhi

The framing of policies by local administration authorities normally end up with casualties to the common public. In terms of purchasing cars, the Delhi administration has invoked doubled night parking fee for registering the vehicles. The fee structure has been revised as Rs 12,000 for vehicles costing Rs 4-Rs10 lakhs which has all along been Rs 4,000; the fee is to be Rs 20,000 for vehicles costing more thanRs10 lakhs as there is no charge for luxury cars as of now. The charge will be Rs 4000-Rs8000 for private buses, trucks and tempos. A flat Rs10000 is fixed for private and radio taxis with all India permit.

The MCD official clarified that the rise in fee is inevitable due to the depletion in the revenue as well as the increasing cost in constructing parking lots. He accounted that the civic body spends Rs9lakh for erecting an automated multi-level parking for single car while it spends Rs4 lakh for manual multi-level parking. The ratification of the civic body"s standing committee is to be sought in this regard, he added. He said wherever people park, the place comes under the privilege and rights of the MCD and hence invites parking fee. The MCD calculated the entry of new cars as 40000 lakhs every year and the parking fee for all these cars would procure a sizable income for it.

For all these new entrants the civic body has to build parking lots by spending Rs4 lakh for manual parking. The whooping increase of construction costs has made MCD to levy these doubled parking charges, he justified. However, there has been no improvement in parking system in the nation"s capital. There are proposal from MCD for constructing various parking lots including 21 conventional multi-level, 15 automated multi-level and 4 stack parking projects. These will accommodate 8000 cars at a time. These proposals are on paper only for almost three years and none of them has got life as of now.
