The growing demand for luxury car in the Indian market has made BMW India to vie for the top most position and has been carrying the mantle for the past two years. And now the company is scheduling its plans to snatch the status for the third time in a row with the sales of 6425 units in 2010 to be doubled this year. The President of BMW India said that the company has lot to commit for India and is on the stint of focusing the same vigor to retain the No.1 spot in the Indian luxury car segment. The strategies include varied product ranges and vigorous market expansion with increased dealerships. The new product range will include 6-series convertible and a new X3 SUV in this year. He said of these two 6-series will be utilized for brand strength despite low profile volume. He said X3 series will be the bread winner for the company in terms of volume as it has large scope in the Indian luxury car market. The dealer network will be doubled to 40 by the end of 2012 with select cities getting the opportunity and the cities will be earmarked with the minimum volume of 50 units a year.
Currently BMW vehicles see a good number from the dealers in Kolhapur and Aurangabad. The company"s Chennai facility has been upgraded to yield 10000 units from the current 8000 units. The facility land too has been expanded by 20acres from the adjoining land in anticipation to reap more volumes at any time. He further said the company is deriving the CBUs as ad hoc set up and if needed there may be a full production unit in the country. Such a step, he said, will enable the company to enter into the market with confidence and hopes for development. The luxury car"s volume comprising vehicles from BMW, Audi and Mercedes accounted for 16000 units in 2010 and the projected growth is nearly 40% in this year, he said. Of these, the contribution from Mercedes-Benz is 5819 units in last year with 80% growth while Audi secured the sales of 3003 units making a growth of 81% from the one achieved in 2009.
