BMW Electric Cars To Be Launched In India

BMW i3
German premium car manufacturer has said it would launch the i3 and i8 electric cars. The i3 and i8 might hit the European car market by 2013-14. The two electric cars were unveiled recently and the carmaker will soon announce the commercial production of these two stunning new cars.

When asked if these two electric cars will make its way to India, BMW's Chairman of Board Of Management Dr Norbert Reithofer said: “Our first country for launch of these cars is Germany. We have the world in our minds which includes India as well, but this will only happen in the future."

BMW has hastened the development of its electric cars following stringent emission norms being announced in Europe and America. Hence the German carmaker will first introduce these cars in Germany and then in the USA.

The BMW 13 concept is a city car that can accelerate to a top speed of 100kmph. The BMW18 is a more sporty electric car that focusses on providing top notch performance. BMW will be marketing these two cars at specific buyers.

BMW has created the i brand of cars. BMW believes the i-cars will continue to offer the characteristic traits of a BMW while offering performance with zero emissions.

BMW is the first major premium carmaker to build an electric car for the volume market. The BMW i-cars will maintain the premium feel of the German carmaker. The possibility of these cars entering India in the near future is slim as the infrastructure necessary for electric cars has not been installed in India.
