Audi Aiming For a Luxury High Slot
Being in Volkswagen fold, the company is currently pitted against these two players and is in the third position. Audi aims to secure at least 50% sale growth in this year by launching new models in India, said its Head for India operations. He said the projection for the next five years in luxury car segment is 50000 annual units which was 15000 in 2010. He expressed that Audi aims to sell a minimum of 4500 units in 2011 amidst the expected growth of 20000 - 25000. He said the sale figure for 2010 had been 3003 units in the domestic market which reflected the growth of 81% against the previous year"s figure.
In this luxury car segment BMW maintains the unstinted growth rate and retains its supremacy by selling 6246 units. Whereas Mercedes, in second place, sold 5819 units during the 2010 calendar year which happened to be the highest ever number for any luxury car maker in India. Being in the third in this race, Audi could sell 480 units in January 2011 which is considered to be its highest ever for a month in Indian market. The corresponding figure for the 2010 was 306, thereby making a rise of 57%, which could be possible with the launch of its new sedan A8 for Rs89 lakhs.
So far, the company has got bookings for 150 units of this luxury sedan and the company expects to deliver them in another 3-4months. The company"s Head said in 2011 Audi will be launching some more models including A7 and A6 in addition to expansion of dealer network to20 from the current 15
