Audi Begins A6 Production In India
In a statement Audi India stated that it intended to targets to manufacture more than 4,600 units in 2011, compared to 2,466 units from the previous year. By 2015, the luxury carmaker plans to roll out up to 6,000 units annually. The Audi A6's production will be done in 16 work cycles. This has enabled the employment of 126 personnel.
The new Audi A6 will be available with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines. The base model will be powered by a two litre turbo-diesel unit that delivers 175bhp and a 3.0-litre TDI churning out 242bhp. The new A6 will be available with two petrol engines - a 2.8-litre FSI unit and a 3.0-litre TFSI unit each developing 201bhp and 296bhp respectively. The new A6 sedan will challenge the current market leader in its class, the BMW 5 Series once it is launched in July.
The new Audi A6's launch is expected to create a buzz in the luxury carmaket as the car will appeal to customers with its top-class interiors and beautiful exterior design. The entry level A6 TDI will be priced about Rs. 37 lakh when it hits showrooms. The new A6 has received critical acclaim and some have even said it is better than its competitors - the Mercedes E-Class and the BMW 5 Series.
Audi India is planning to produce 2,000 units of the new Audi A6 every year at its Aurangabad facility. Audi India has already produced as many as 5,000 models in this plant since local production began in September, 2007. The plant currently produces Audi A4 and the Audi Q5. The Audi range in India includes Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi RS 5 Coupe, the super sports car Audi R8 and the Audi R8 Spyder.
