Ashok Leyland & Nissan Introducing Exciting Versions
The first of these two is Ashok Leyland"s DOST and the other one will come off Nissan"s platform in another year"s time, said the company"s Chairman. He said the new one under Nissan badge will have the design of a body-type product and will be followed by a large tonner from Ashok Leyland under its badge. The two companies are in a Master-Cooperation Agreement since October 2007 to develop and manufacture vehicles. In addition there will be manufacturing of power trains and development of technology.
The partners have so far invested Rs2300 crore for these activities, he added. As of now there are three platforms for the companies" focus on LCV which include a 7.5 tonne Gross Vehicle Weight, he said, adding that the engines are for manufacturing under Euro-III and Euro-IV norms. The agreement entitles the Japanese company to make use of the facility of Ashok Leyland at Hosur for the initial phase of the first mentioned product, Ashok Leyland DOST. This facility has the capacity of 1.5 lakh annual units. He further said the export venture of the partners will be followed after the complete stabilization of the domestic market during the first year of launch of DOST. He said the company may think of export sometime next year, that too in feasible markets only, like Middle East and South Africa.
He made it clear that the completion of the first phase of production will give way for second investment for setting up Green Valley facility for manufacturing commercial vehicles. The company has got the sanction of lands for this from the government of Tamilnadu. The marketing of these vehicles will be routed through 25 dealers spread and it will be carried out during the first phase of production. He said the exclusive dealers are to be appointed to have the close affinity with the customers. He said that the company will ensure efficiently powered engines for these vehicles and they will have a 3.lit 4 cylinder Common Rail Diesel Engine under BS-III and BS-IV compliance norms.
