Ashok Leyland Posts Impressive July Performance

Ashok Leyland
Ashok Leyland, the Indian commercial vehicle major has reported that its sales in July had increased by a respectable 16 per cent. This is quite contrary to passenger vehicles sales that are registereing a sharp decline.

Ashok Leyland in its statement said it had sold 7834 units in July. The Hinduja Group owned car and truck manufacturer had sold 6,747 vehicles in July 2010. However cumulative sales in April and July fell slightly to 27,111 units. The company had sold 28,147 units in the corresponding period last year.

Ashok Leyland's domestic sales in July stood at units and exports were at 1,060 units. Exports rose significantly from July 2010's 725 units. Although passenger car sales are considered as an important sign of consumer sentiments, the sales of commercial vehicles is considered as an indicator of the performance of the economy.

Even as the passenger vehicle sector is slowing down due to increasing fuel prices and interest rates, commercial vehicle sales continues to show signs of improvement.
