Ashok Leyland to export 290 buses to Bangladesh

Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group"s automobile manufacturing arm and India's second largest commercial vehicle maker that said that it had won an order worth $23.3 million (Rs. 105 crore) from state run Bangladesh Road Transport Corp (BRTC). And the order was for 290 fully built double decker buses.

Ashok Leyland said that this represents the company"s largest single order for double-decker buses from Bangladesh. Also, the company has considered Bangladesh as one of its major export destinations. Ashok Leyland exports its trucks and buses to Sri Lanka and West Asia too.

The firm's Managing director Vinod K. Dasari said: “Bangladesh has always remained a very important market for us. Our continued focus on this robustly growing market has helped us establish ourselves as the second largest brand in that country"s commercial vehicle market." The bus and truck maker has exported more than 9,500 vehicles to Bangladesh till date. Ashok Leyland's exports climbed 72 percent and stood at 10,306 units in the last fiscal.
