New Drunken Driving Tests Made Easier

By By: Vicky.in

The technology of the future will easily identify the drunken nature of the drivers. The research on this aspect is mooted in a bid to save lot of human lives thereby the driver"s blood alcohol limit will be measured known as the Driver Alcohol Detection Systems for Safety, this technology will be applicable by two ways: the driver"s breath will be put in for analysis and the skin will also be tested. This could be possible with the help of touch-sensors fitted in steering wheels and door locks.

The allowed alcohol limit is .08 and if it exceeds the driver cannot start the vehicle. This technology is currently under process from R&D wing of QinetiQ North America Inc on the lines of the ones in Sweden and New Mexico. The technology is, however, optional for the car manufacturers. This is not similar to the breath analyser which was advocated by the court order, under which the driver"s blow into a tube will decide the alcohol level. In the new technology , the alcohol test will be done in a matter of seconds.

The technology is on the process since 2008 aided by the grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety. The grant is about million and the process is to wind up in another two years. The QinetiQ has just demonstrated this technology recently which was attended by US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The head of this Administration claimed that this technology is mooted to prevent nearly 9000 accident prone alcohol driving in the US. However, he said it will take another 8-10 years to make this technology operative. He said the technology shall meet the norms of seamless, unobtrusive and unfailingly accurate measures.
