Get an AK 47 For just Rs.3.1 Lakhs !

How much would you pay to get yourself an AK 47? Well it was recently sold for just Rs.3.1 lakhs at an open auction in Chandigarh, Punjab. Do not be shocked to know that automatic machine guns are being openly auctioned now. It is not the Kalashnikov machine gun that was auctioned. Rather it was just the registration number plate for a car.

The Punjab road transport authorities held an auction of fashionable number plates and the number plate bearing AK 47 was sold for RS.3.1 lakhs. The auction of registration number plates is held in Chandigarh every time a new series of numbers begin. The most preferred number is 0001 which was auctioned for Rs. 7 lakhs. Other preferred numbers are 0007 and 0005.

The AK 47 number plate surprisingly was bought by a religious group. The AK 56 number, which had a reserve price of Rs.10,000 was sold for its reserve price only. The buyer was another religious head of a local sect.

The Punjab road transport authorities have said the auction has generated revenues totaling Rs.48 lakhs. This auction has not been able to break the previous record for the highest price for a car number plate. A Jalandhar based business man is said to have bought a number plate called 0001 for his Bentley Continental luxury car and paid Rs.7.3 lakhs for it.
