Maruti Reports 4% Cancellation Of Swift Bookings

We have been reporting about the ill effects of the strike at Maruti Suzuki on its most profitable and famous model – Swift. But it turns out that the damage on the Swift due to the three strikes at Manesar have been bare minimum. Maruti Suzuki has reported that the Swift's bookings were cancelled but the figure is just four per cent.

Earlier reports from Maruti Suzuki had indicated that the Swifts bookings had crossed well over one lakh units by the time bookings were stopped due to the strike at Manesar. The waiting period for the Swift had increased to over eight months and we had feared impatient people would cancel their bookings and opt for cars from other carmakers.

Evidently, the Swift's bookings have been cancelled by some buyers. But at four percent, not more than 4,000 bookings of the Swift have been cancelled. This is a clear indication of how the Swift has impressed people. With several of them ready to wait for a long period rather than opting for another car.

Another important factor that we need to consider is that Some of the people who cancelled the bookings of the Swift might have actually opted for cars from within Maruti Suzuki. The carmaker has said at least half of the people who cancelled the Swift's bookings have now chosen cars such as the Swift DZire or the Ritz. This effectively means about 2,000 people have cancelled the Swift's booking.

With the strike coming to an amicable end, Maruti Suzuki has brought back production to full swing. The long waiting period for the Swift is expected to come down soon with the second unit at Manesar also getting close to full production.
