Hyundai H800 Small Car Gets New Name - EON
News about the H800 have been slowly trickling down and the latest tit bit is that Hyundai has decided to name its 800cc engined small car as the Eon. This will be one of the first small car to be named without the I in the name in recent years. The H800 has been specifically designed to cater to Indian car buyers.
The Hyundai EON is expected to be priced lower than Rs.3 lakhs. This will be Hyundai's cheapest car in India behind the Santro. We had earlier reported that the H800 could be launched in October. By renaming the small car as Eon, Hyundai has ensured there is no direct link between this new model and the Maruti 800. Maruti Suzuki is also developing a new small car that will also be powered by a 800cc engine.
Hyundai has already begun initial production of the Eonsmall car according to insiders. Hyundai's suppliers have been asked to prepare production of spare parts of a small car that will be cheaper than Rs.3 lakhs.
This new small car is vital for Hyundai Motor if it has to make a sizeable dent in its closest competitor, Maruti Suzuki's market share. The Korean carmaker had earlier said it would develop a new car aimed at the rural car market in India.
