Mini Confirms Three Models For India
Mini is set to enter India this January during the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo will be having three models in its line-up. BMW, which owns the Mini brand has been planning the type of Mini models in can launch in India. BMW India boss Dr Andreas Schaaf has said Mini had decided to launch three cars in India initially.
Mini India will debut in India by launching the Mini Cooper three door hatchback, the Mini Cooper Convertible and the Mini Countryman SUV. Mini will price its entry level model at about Rs.25 lakhs. This price tag will mean Mini will not be a mass volume brand and will remain a premium car.
We shall have a closer look at the Mini cars that will enter India. The first one is the Mini Cooper hatchback. The Mini Cooper is the brand's entry level car and a three door version will be coming to India. It will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine can generate 95bhp while the Cooper D, the diesel variant powered by a 1.6-litre CRDI diesel will have 110bhp.
The Cooper convertible as the name suggest is a soft top convertible. It has the same design and features apart from the roof. It will also have the same engine options as the Cooper hatchback. The Convertible will be a perfect car for someone who enjoys the sun. The soft top roof can be unfurled by just a press of a button and it will open in just over 20 seconds.
The third model in Mini's Indian line-up will be the Countryman SUV. This is Mini's first SUV and probably the car which is most suited to Indian conditions. It will be available with four proper doors and a rear hatchback. It is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that churns out 120bhp.
