The XUV is powered by the familiar 2.2-litre CRDI diesel engine that generates 140bhp and 330Nm of torque. Mahindra has claimed an ARAI approved mileage of 15kmpl which is quite good for an SUV.
By keeping the price of the XUV 500 just below RS.11 lakhs, Mahindra has kept the new SUV within the reach of the middle class. The car is a comfortable seven seater and is quite capable of hauling a large family. The
Mahindra Group Boss Anand Mahindra while speaking to the press today expressed optimism about the prospects of the XUV 500. When asked about the slowing down of the auto sector, Mr Mahindra emphasized that the new SUV would attract several buyers and expressed confidence the XUV 500 will become a cult classic like the Mahindra Scorpio.
The XUV 500 is being dubbed as Mahindra's global SUV. When asked about the launch of this car in international markets, Mr Mahindra said the company would initially focus on right hand drive markets starting from India. It would then move on to left hand drive markets such as the US.
