Tata Safari Merlin SUV To Be Launched In September
Informed sources have revealed that the new Tata Safari Merlin SUV will be launched this September. Tata appears to have accelerated the development of the new Safari Merlin to ensure it is launched before the launch of the Mahindra global SUV. The New Safari will be a more premium model thanks to Tata Motors' association with Land Rover.
The Force One SUV has created lot of buzz with its high levels of equipment and features. This will force other SUV makers including Mahindra and Tata to have a re-look at their models features. It is a known fact that most Indian car buyers are now preferring to buy the high-end versions. Will this make Tata add more features to the new Safari and also increase its price?
We expected the new Safari Merlin to be powered by the same 2.2-litre DICOR engine capable of generating 140bhp and 320Nm if torque. The design will have some elements for Land Rover models. We only hope this new model will also have the rugged brilliance of Land Rover models.
As far as the interior if the new Safari, we expect to see some parts to be taken from the Aria crossover. Tata Motors must make the Safari more premium if it has any intention of marketing it in the international markets. The current Tata Safari is one of the worst selling model in the Uk. The car has registered just one sale during the whole 2010.
The new Tata Safari Merlin already has a stiff competition from international car models such as the Honda CRV and the Toyota Fortuner. With local competition set to increase further the new Safari must live up to the competition as well as expectations from buyers.
