Takashi Nagai, the President and CEO of the Honda Siel Cars India while speaking at the launch of the new Brio said: “The Brio has been designed and developed for Indian market. It is a car that has been developed keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of the Indian market. Honda will enter the fastest growing sector in the Indian car market – the small car sector. The Brio will appeal to the young car buyers It is a true Honda and offers spacious interior while still being a compact car."
Takahiro Higochi, the project leader of the Brio also spoke during the launch. “The Honda Brio is a car inspired by India. Honda has increased localisation to reduce costs. The carmaker has increased purchases of even vital parts to make production of the Brio cheaper. More than 80 per cent of the parts used in the Brio are from India. It will soon increase to over 90 per cent in the coming months., Indian engineers from HSCI were involved for the first time in the development of the Brio from the drawing stage."
The Brio is Honda's first attempt at making a mark in the lucrative small car market. It is hoping the Brio will offer a credible competition to established models such as the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and the Chevrolet Beat. The carmaker has managed to price the Brio competitively.
