Fiat To Launch Sedici - Its First SUV For India

Fiat the Italian carmaker is said to be working on launching its first SUV in India. Reports say Fiat India is planing to add a compact SUV to its line-up in India. Fiat's only compact SUV is the Sedici that has been jointly developed by Fiat and Suzuki. Suzuki builds the Sedici for Fiat in its plant in Hungary.

The Fiat Sedici is built on the platform of the Suzuki SX4 and it has been optimised for European road conditions. Fiat India can make some basic changes to make the compact SUV more suitable for Indian road conditions.

Fiat India currently has just models in its stable. The Fiat Punto Grande and the Linea sedan. The sales of both these models have not reached expected levels and there are no new products that can replace the hatchback and sedan.

The Fiat Sedici is available in both petrol and diesel engines and is expected to be priced below Rs 10 lakhs. The Sedici is an ideal car for Fiat India as it will be a profitable model with a high potential for sales. The market for a five seater SUV is increasing steadily but the options available are premium ones from Audi and BMW. The Fiat SUV will offer an inexpensive option for car buyers.
