Ferrari Set To Launch FF In India On October 31

Ferrari FF
The word Ferrari triggers images of fast rear wheel driven sports cars finished in the customary bright red paint. Contrary to this image Ferrari has developed its first all-wheel drive model, the Ferrari FF. The FF will replace the V12 engine powered 612 Scaglietti grand tourer. The FF is a first for Ferrari in many terms. And as a first for Ferrari India, the new car is set to be launched here on October 31st with a wallet shattering price tag of Rs.3.5 crores.

The FF was made its official debut at the Geneva Motor show. The frontal design of the car is similar to the 458 Italia. That apart the Ff is a completely new car.

It is the Italian carmaker's first four-wheel drive car as well as its first hatchback. The hatchback design provides added practicality. The FF is also unique due to the hug amount of luggage space it offers. Ferrari models usually offer just about enough luggage space to fit in a brief case. The FF however can carry two whole sets of golf clubs. The luggage space can increase even further when the rear seats are bent forward.

The hatchback design and the four wheel drive system does not mean the FF is a Slouch. It is powered by a six-litre V12 engine that generates a hefty 660bhp and and 683Nm of torque. Ferrari claims the FF can accelerate to 100km/h from 0 in just 3.7 seconds. The engine is paired with a dual clutch automatic transmission also seen in the Ferrari California. Ferrari has specially developed the FF's four-wheel drive system. It is 50% lighter than conventional four-wheel drives.

It is yet unclear how many FFs will be available in India as reports say the the whole production until 2012 has already been sold out. If Ferrari has already earmarked some Ffs to India that will not be a surprise considering the importance of emerging markets such as India to the Italian carmaker. Further one needs to be skeptical about the FF's success in India considering its mileage of 6kmpl.
