20 Bookings For Rs.1.1 Crore Mercedes G55 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is a car that has struck to its roots since 35 years. It carries the same boxy design that was first seen in the 70s. The latest G-Class, the G55 AMG reminds us of three Indian vehicles, the Tata Sumo, the Force Trax and the Mahindra Armada. All these Indian vehicle are considered rural vehicles that are known for their ruggedness.

The Mercedes G-Class though still rugged is a more expensive piece of metal. The G55 AMG is priced at a whopping Rs.1.1 crore. The price tag does not mean, the G55 AMG has all the gadgets and comfort features that you will usually expect with cars with such a price tag. The Merc remains the old school SUV with switches and knobs that reminds us of German army jeeps built in the 70s.Yet, it has attracted 20 bookings from wealthy Indian buyers.

It is quite surprising that people are buying a rather tough SUV that does not offer any comforts of an Mercedes S-Class but that costs as much as the luxury limousine. The one big reason for the G-55 AMG's price is its all powerful V8 petrol engine. The engine designed by AMG is able to churn out 503bhp and 700Nm of torque. Such power will make the G55 AMG a powerful off-road vehicle.

But one can only wonder if some one who has paid more than one crore for a car will want to drive it on rough conditions despite its innate abilities. On the contrary, the Indian road conditions a re tough enough challenge for our cars.
