Maruti Suzuki Suspends Two Workers In Manesar
Maruti Suzuki has suspended two workers at its Manesar plant on Tuesday, Aug 23. These workers were suspended after the company found they had instigated indiscipline in the car plant. This suspension takes the total number of suspended workers at Manesar to six.

This is not the first instance of labour trouble for Maruti Suzuki at Manesar. A section of workers had formed a unregistered union and had gone on a 13 day strike seeking recognition for their new union. They finally approached the Haryana government for recognition and their application was rejected. The rebel workers have said they would continue to seek official recognition.
Maruti Suzuki on its part has said it would not recognize a second union in Manesar. While the carmaker insists it would talk to the workers to resolve the issue, it appears to be firm on tackling indiscipline with serious action. It remains to be seen if this disciplinary action of suspending two more workers will help to resolve Maruti Suzuki's labour issues.
While Maruti Suzuki workers at Manesar have been seeking a separate union for their plant, the company management believes the existing union – the Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union is sufficient to take care of the workers requirements. The management does not want to infuriate the Manesar workers further as Maruti Suzuki's key model, the new Swift is being assembled at Manesar.
Maruti Suzuki has said production has been normal since the day the 13-day strike ended. There were no reports of untoward incidents at the Manesar plant following the suspension of two workers on Tuesday.
