Mahindra Launches Low Priced Scorpio LX 4X4
Mahindra has said the Scorpio SLX 4X4 will be priced at Rs.9.17 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). It looks very much similar to the LX version but gets the 4x4 monickers on the rear as well as new wheels. The technical aspects of the Scorpio remains the same. It will be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk CRDe turbo diesel engine that generates 120bhp and 290Nm of torque.
The new Scorpio is heavier than the two wheel drive variant by about 100 kilos taking its weight closer to the two tonne mark. This will mean its fuel economy will not be as much as the regular two wheel drive Scorpio. The additional weight will ensure a slight dip in fuel economy in two wheel drive mode while there will be higher fuel consumption in four wheel drive mode.
Mahindra has removed some features in the new SUV which also includes safety equipment. Unfortunately even airbags and ABS are not available as options too. If you want your buyers to take this car out on an off-roading adventure and still do not give them the confidence of having sufficient safety equipment, the whole point of having such a car is lost as the driver will not be able to enjoy the drive.
The Scorpio LX 4X4 is just a stripped out version of the Scorpio VLX. It will be an SUV that will offer a little more space and comfort along wheel four wheel driveability when compared with Mahindra's other SUV – Thar. But for a price tag of above Rs.9 lakhs and the on road price could be well over Rs.10 lakhs, a buyer would be more happy if the Scorpio LX had airbags and ABS.
