American Car Buyers Set To Reject Indian Cars

The study is expecting Indian and Chinese car firms to grow in a manner similar to that of Korean car firms Hyundai and Kia. The Korean carmakers which were initially considered as cheap and inefficient have now gained an image of makers of inexpensive yet resourceful cars. However they had to struggle for more than 15 years to improve their image.
Most American car buyers are also sceptical about buying Chinese built cars. Carmakers such as BYD and Cherry are already on their way to export their cars to the USA.
The GfK study conducted surveys among several age demographics and found that 41 per cent of Gen Y customers would not mind buying Indian cars while on the whole only 30 per cent would thing of buying an Indian car.
American prefer to buy American built cars followed by German, Japanese and Korean cars in that order. While Indian cars can satisfy the fuel economy requirements of Americans, they are yet to match the refinement, space and interior fittings that Americans are fond of. Indian car brands have to build their brand image from scratch and must ensure their products are of top quality if they have to make a mark in the American car market.
Indian and Chinese carmakers already have a presence in the American car market through their subsidiaries. While Tata Motors owns Jaguar and Land Rover, Swedish car brand Volvo is owned by Geely Motors of China.
