Toyota Kirloskar To Invest Rs.780 Crore In India

Toyota Kirloskar, the wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese carmaker Toyota has said it intends to invest an addition Rs.780 crore in its plant in Bidadi, near Bangalore. The news was disclosed by a senior minister in the Karnataka government.

Toyota Kirloskar has reportedly informed the government about its investment and has sought necessary clearances. It has also sought 16 acres of land to expand its plant's premises. The additional land could be needed for the planned new engine plant.

Toyota Kirloskar has two plant in Bidadi. While the first one builds the Innova and the Fortuner, the second plant builds the Etios, Etios Liva and Corolla. Toyota had earlier said it wanted to increase the production capacity of both its plants and also build a new engine plant.

Toyota Kirloskar has so far made an investment of Rs.5,000 crores in India. It has seen its sales increase considerably after it launched the Fortuner, Etios and Etios Liva. Toyota intends to increase its production capacity by one lakh units per year.
