Ssasangyong Concept
Ssangyong the Korean carmaker now owned by Mahindra and Mahindra is looking to boost its sales and launch several new models. The SUV specialist from South Korea on Wednesday said it intended to sell 1.6 lakh cars by 2013 and 3 lakh cars by 2016.

Ssangyong sait it would be launching four new models and five facelifts in the next few years. In its statement, the carmaker also said it intended to use Mahindra's existing network to launch its vehicles in India and South Africa. It is also working on developing completely electric vehicles.

Mahindra bought Ssangyong in 2009 after its Chinese owner SAIC backed out following prolonged labour issues. Mahindra , which is India's leading SUV seller bought it and has been investing in it for new product development. The two companies have decided to retain their individual identities but will be sharing their expertise in research and development.

Ssangyong's influence on Mahindra can be clearly understood only when Mahindra launches the XUV 500 global SUV.

Ssangyong has said it will expand its sales infrastructure in South Korea and will soon start its own finance division. It is aiming to increase its market share to 20 per cent in all participating segments.

Ssangyong is expected to bring in the Korando SUV to India. Reports say the new SUV will be built in India as a CKD and will be marketed along with Mahindra's cars.
