Maruti Suzuki To Add More CNG Models, Hybrids
The five CNG models from Maruti Suzuki are the Alto, Zen Estillo, Wagon R, Eeco and SX4. Disclosing Maruti Suzuki's plans to the media, its chairman R C Bhargava said: “ The five models with CNG option launched by Maruti Suzuki have been received well by customers in areas where the fuel is available. We plan to launch more vehicles with the CNG option."
All CNG models apart from the SX4 are not available with a diesel engine. The share of CNG vehicles is increasing gradually as the cost of CNG is lower than petrol. However there has not been a huge growth due to the non availability of CNG across the length and breadth of the country.
Mr Bhargava has asked the help of the central government to improve the availability of the CNG in India. CNG is currently sold in the national capital region of Delhi, Gujarat and Mumbai. Maruti Suzuki has not revealed the which models will be getting CNG engines
In another development, Maruti Suzuki has said it wants to launch its hybrid vehicles in India. The company has already developed the Hybrid SX4 and has tested the vehicle in India during the 2010 Common wealth games. The test revealed the Hybrid SX4 is 25 per cent more fuel efficient than the regular SX4.
A hybrid vehicle from Maruti Suzuki will be a welcome move considering the increasing fuel prices. However the sales performance of hybrid vehicles cannot be certain due to their higher price.
