Book Swift This Diwali And Get It The Next

The Maruti Suzuki Swift attracted so much hype that bookings had crossed more than 50,000 units even before it was launched. The same trend continued even after its launch and bookings crossed more than one lakh units. But at the same time a series of strikes have hit Maruti Suzuki's plant in Manesar.

Production has been severely affected and there has hardly been one full week's uninterrupted production in the past two months. Several people who have already booked the Swift had expressed concerns about delayed deliveries. Auto.oneindia.in tried to ascertain how the situation was at a Bangalore based showroom and the results are nothing short of a shocker.

The writer visited the showroom and inquired about the Swift. The representative at the showroom spoke about the Swift's all too well known features and also explained the new changes as compared to the old Swift. When asked about the booking amount and waiting periods, he only said the strike had made getting the Swift very difficult. When prodded again he asked when was the writer intending to buy the Swift. When the reply was this Diwali, his candid reply was people who book the Swift this Diwali can only get it the next Diwali!

The Maruti Suzuki Swift's long waiting period could turn out to be a death knell to a car that is perhaps the most loved hatchback in India. With several new competitors emerging the Swift is no longer in a position to bask in its own glory. Other carmakers are targeting buyers of the Swift by launching similarly priced cars that might even have more features.
