Mercedes Launches Low Cost E220 CDI

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new E-Class E 220 CDI. The car did not have a huge launch event unlike other car launches. The car has already reached showrooms and is on sale for RS.44.50 Lakhs in Mumbai. The car was previously spotted while testing a couple of months ago.

The new E220 Cdi will be Mercedes' entry level variant in the E-Class Range. The engine powering the new premium sedan is the same one that is found in the E 250. The engine in the E 250 has been however has been tuned to offer more power and performance. Paired with a five-speed automatic transmission the engine in the E 220 can churn out170bhp and 400Nm of torque.

Mercedes is not offering any options in terms of trim levels. The E- 220 CDI will be available in one trim level - Elegance. The main attraction of the new E-Class is its engine that has BlueEFFICIENCY technology that helps in reducing fuel consumption. It is now also available in the E 250 CDI too. The E 250 has a 203bhp, 500Nm engine. These two models join three other E-Class models.

The E220 CDI will be competing against the likes of the Audi A6 and the BMW 5-Series. The three models from the German carmakers continue their face off in India. The three models are also priced similarly making the job choosing one among them a very difficult task considering the fact that they are all powered by diesel CDI engines.
