Kia Joins Recall Race, Pulls Out 10k Cars

Kia Sorento
Kia, the South Korean carmaker will be recalling more than 10,000 cars in the US after the US safety authority reported a faulty front air bag. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recommended the recall of the Kia Sorento after it found that the front air bags Kia had used in the Sorento were not safe for children.

Airbags are considered as safety equipment but the front air bags have turned out to be quite dangerous for children in real world conditions. New cars now have a sensor that will turn off the front air bag if the weight of the occupant is below a said weight. The NHTSA has found this device to be missing in the Ki9a Sorento built between 2007 and 2008.

Following this disclosure, Kia was asked to recall 10,631 Sorentos. Kia will be informing owners about the fault and the recalled cars will be rectified soon.

This is not a major recall in the US. All major carmakers have recalled millions of cars after the NHTSA recommended changes. The biggest affected company is Toyota whose reputation took a huge hit following several reports of fatal accidents of Toyota as well as Lexus branded vehicles.
