JLR To Get New Engine Plant In England

Range Rover
Tata Motors, the Indian auto giant which owns the Jaguar and Land Rover car brands has announced it will be building a new engine plant in England's West Mid Lands. The new engine plant will require an investment of £400 million. The British Government has also offered assistance of £10 million.

Media reports say this new JLR engine plant will employ more than 2,000 employees.. JLR currently does not build its own engines. All its engines are currently sourced from former owner Ford's engine plants. JLR is now planning to have greater control over production following increased sales.

The Sunday Telegraph has also reported that JLR was also planning to build an engine plant in India. Tata Motors began building the Discovery 4 SUV in its plant in Jamshedpur as a CKD. More models are expected to be built here in India. If volumes increase an engine plant will help reduce the price of Jaguars and Land Rovers here.

Jaguar and Land Rover have been revived successfully by Tata Motors which brought the ailing British car brands from Ford in 2008. Tat Motors has been investing £1.5 billion per year just for the development of new products. The first such model is the Evoque, which has already received rave reviews from car lovers across the globe. This lifestyle SUV will be launched in India this October.
