Nissan Announces Diesel Engine Plant In India

The Japanese carmaker has said the diesel plant would help it respond to market requirements quickly. It has not been able to launch the Sunny's diesel variant along with the petrol variant as it had to import the diesel engines which have o be pre ordered several months in advance. The new diesel engine plant will be set up in Oragadam, next to Nissan's car plant.
The engine plant will be a good news for diesel car buyers too as local production will mean Nissan's diesel models could be priced lower than current prices.
Nissan Chief Financial Officer, Mr Sunil Rekhi while announcing the news of the new plant said the new plant is an effort by Nissan to achieve maximum localization. This will not only help reduce prices but also insulate the carmaker from global influences.
The first diesel engine to be produced at the plant will be used in the Sunny. The diesel Sunny is expected to be launched in January next year. It will be first displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo to be held in Delhi. Nissan is also planning to increase production capacity of its car plat from two lakh units to four lakh units in the next one year.
