Can The New Maruti Suzuki Swift Match Its Hype?

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched in India with much fanfare. There has been tremendous amounts of expectations on the new Swift from both within the company as well as from customers. With over 50,000 bookings even before the launch, the new Swift has set a record of sorts.

The hype around the new swift was mainly due to the performance of its predecessor. With its sports car like looks and matching performance, the Swift captured the hearts of the Indian car buyers. Maruti Suzuki India has itself accepted that the Swift was a very rare car to happen. The Swift is truly the first Indian hot hatch. The success of the Swift lead to other carmakers launching their own versions of hot hatches.

While Hyundai has the i20, Skoda has the Fabia and Volkswagen has launched the Polo to take on the Swift. Maruti Suzuki's image of low cost, low maintenance carmaker also helped the Swift emerge as one of the most popular models in India.

The new Swift continues to follow its predecessor in design. Maruti Suzuki has made some minor changes to the engine to improve its fuel economy and emissions. We will have to wait and see if the new Swift can match the expectations around it. Will the hype around the new Swift create too much expectations that it might not reach and hence disappoint enthusiasts?
