Brazil Minister Request Tata Nano Export

Tata Nano Europa
The Tata Nano has got a new international fan in the form of Brazil's Antonio Augusto Anastasia. Mr Anastasia is the governor of Brazil's Minas Gerais. He mis on a state visit to India and will be here for eight days. He met Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata and expressed his wish to see the Nano in Brazil.

Speaking to delegates of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr Anastasia said: “We would very much like to take Tata Nano to Brazil. Brazil and India already have good relationships. We want to strengthen them lot more. We invite big corporates to invest there." Brazil is one of the world's fast growing auto markets where small cars dominate. This is very much similar to Indian conditions and the Nano is an ideal car for the South American country.

Tata Motors has already started exporting the Nano to Asian countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Indian carmaker is also planning to set up a manufacturing facility for the Nano in Eastern Europe. This invitation by the Brazilian minister will open the South American car market to the Nano.

The Nano which has seen its sales slip might find some support in international markets where its price is comparatively very low to locally available cars. However, Tata Motors has not ascertained if it needs to make any changes in the Nano to satisfy local regulations.

Tata Motors had once displayed a European version of the Nano called the Nano Europa. The Europa is a more robust car with more standard features. We expect Brazil to get the Nano Europa rather than the standard Nano which is sold in India.
